A groundbreaking ceremony was held this morning for a wastewater treatment system development project in Takhmao city, Kandal province, under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. Park Jung-Wook, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (RoK) to Cambodia.
Funded by a concessional loan from the RoK Government, the US$90-million project includes the construction of a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of treating 12,000 cubic metres of wastewater a day, a wastewater pumping station, sewerage networks, and household connections to discharge into the treatment system. The system will serve six Sangkats within Takhmao. The project also includes the development of a flood relief system.
Spanning three years, this project is a result of the strong cooperation between Cambodia and the RoK. Under the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia’s 7th mandate, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister has worked to strengthen and elevate bilateral relations to the level of a “strategic partnership,” bringing significant and ongoing development to Cambodia.
In his address at the ceremony, the Premier expressed his gratitude to the Korean government and people for their continued support through technical assistance, grants, and concessional loans as well as investment, which contribute to Cambodia’s socio-economic growth, particularly in infrastructure development.
H.E. Ambassador Park Jung-Wook stated that Cambodia is the RoK’s 4th largest development partner. Since 2001, the country has supported Cambodia through 40 projects with a total value of US$2,000 million.
