Cambodia, Republic of Korea to Enhance Cooperation on Combating Transnational Crimes

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Lee Jae Myung, President of the Republic of Korea, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this morning.

On the occasion, both leaders spoke highly of the close and growing friendship between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea, whose diplomatic relations were re-established in 1997 and elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2024. Cooperation between the two countries has since deepened across nearly all sectors.

The two leaders also discussed efforts to combat transnational crimes, particularly online scams, and highlighted the effective cooperation between Cambodian and Korean authorities over recent years, which has yielded many positive results.

Cambodia and the Republic of Korea will continue to strengthen their joint cooperation to more effectively prevent, suppress, and combat crimes involving Korean nationals in Cambodia, thereby contributing to the maintenance of security, public order, and social safety.

A Cambodia-Republic of Korea Joint Task Force will be established in November to enhance coordination between the relevant authorities of both countries in addressing crimes involving Korean nationals in Cambodia, including online scams.

Both sides also agreed to promote broader dissemination of information on the positive achievements of their cooperation.
