The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) this morning conducted observation, verification, and reporting on the border situation in Sampov Loun and Phnom Proek districts of Battambang province following the entry into force of the ceasefire, according to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia.
Coordinated by the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG), the AOT also inspected civilian sites and infrastructure, including housing and a referral hospital, all of which sustained severe damage during the Thai military attacks in December 2025, she added.
According to the spokeswoman, Cambodia has consistently provided full support to the AOT and has emphasised the indispensable importance of strengthening the team’s role and mandate to verify and ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, as well as to promote transparency, accountability, and mutual trust.
“The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia reaffirm our firm and clear commitment to fully, strictly, and responsibly respect and implement the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated Oct. 26, 2025, and other relevant agreements,” she reiterated.
H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata stressed that these efforts aim to achieve rapid improvement and a return to normalcy, peace, stability, and long-term security along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
