Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has clarified that Cambodia’s participation as a founding member of the Board of Peace for a three-year term does not require any financial contribution.
In a message posted on his social media network this morning, the Premier said Cambodia agreed to join the Board of Peace following an invitation from U.S. President Donald J. Trump on Jan. 16, 2026.
Samdech Thipadei explained that Cambodia’s decision reflects its strong commitment to supporting and contributing to the promotion of global peace.
The Prime Minister underlined that peace-loving values, goodwill, and active contributions to peacebuilding and peacekeeping have long been core principles of Cambodia’s foreign policy, particularly through its deployment of peacekeeping forces under the United Nations to conflict-affected countries.
Addressing public concerns regarding possible financial obligations, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stressed that Cambodia’s status as a founding member for a three-year term involves no financial payment.
He further clarified that the reported contribution of US$1 billion applies only to countries seeking permanent or long-term membership in the Board of Peace, and not to founding members serving a fixed term.
