Peace, Security Essential for Cambodia’s Economic Growth: Senior Official

Cambodian senior official Samdech Kitti Sangahapundit Men Sam An said Monday that peace and security have played a crucial role in accelerating Cambodia’s national economic development while improving the welfare and prosperity of families and society.

Speaking during a visit to deliver donations to troops of the Intervention Brigade No. 9 and the Preah Vihear–Kampong Thom Sub-Military Operations Region in Preah Vihear province, Samdech Men Sam An stressed that stability has created favourable conditions for social progress and economic growth.

Samdech Men Sam An, Member of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King  and President of the Cambodian Women for Peace and Development Association, made the remarks during an event held at the Choam Ksan district hall to mark the 115th anniversary of International Women’s Day under the theme “Peace and Security for Women and Families.”

She also conveyed greetings and appreciation from Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian Red Cross President Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and his spouse Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony to members of the armed forces.

Samdech Men Sam A said the Royal Government has consistently paid close attention to the well-being of military families to ensure they receive necessary support and assistance while their relatives serve in defence of the nation.

She also urged authorities at all levels to continue providing care and support to military families in their respective localities.

Referring to this year’s International Women’s Day theme, Samdech Men Sam An said peace and security for women and families form the foundation of women’s well-being and create a safe environment free from violence and fear. Such conditions help protect the rights of women and girls, prevent gender-based violence and enable women to participate fully in decision-making and in building and maintaining both traditional and non-traditional security, she said.

“These factors will further contribute to accelerating national economic development and enhancing the welfare and prosperity of families and society,” she added.

During the visit, various supplies were distributed to several military units, including Intervention Battalions 391, 392, 393, 394 and 395, as well as Battalion Nos. 446 and 447 in the Preah Vihear-Kampong Thom Sub-Military Operations Region.

The donated items included medical kits, fuel, scarves, food supplies and other essential goods, along with financial assistance.
