Cambodia, S. Korea See Stronger Investment Potential as Trade Hits over US$150M in Early 2026

Cambodia and the Republic of Korea have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening investment cooperation, leveraging Korean advanced expertise in technology and trade.

The commitment was made in a meeting held here on Mar. 12 between H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and H.E. Kim Chang Yong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia.

In the meeting, H.E. Sun Chanthol noted that trade relations between the two countries have expanded steadily, supported by the bilateral free trade agreement and broader economic cooperation. Cambodia and South Korea elevated their relations to a strategic partnership in 2024, reflecting growing economic and diplomatic ties.

Although cooperation between the two countries is already extensive, there remains significant potential to further enhance investment flows and regional collaboration, he said.

He highlighted that Korea’s advanced expertise in technology, innovation and international trade could play an important role in supporting Cambodia’s development ambitions.

The Deputy Prime Minister also referred to plans to convene the third Cambodia-Korea Government-Private Sector Dialogue on April 8.

For his part, H.E. Kim Chang Yong conveyed appreciation from the President of South Korea for the close cooperation between the two countries in combating online scams, which has helped improve the safety and security of Korean citizens.

H.E. Ambassador also invited H.E. Sun Chanthol to lead an investment promotion delegation to South Korea in June.

Bilateral trade between the two countries reached US$157.6 million in the first two months of 2026, a 10.6 percent increase from US$142.48 million in the same period last year, according to the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia.

Cambodia’s exports to South Korea were valued at about US$65.74 million, up 21.5 percent from US$54.1 million a year earlier, while imports from South Korea rose by 39 percent to US$91.85 million.
