A delegation of Austrian companies is visiting Cambodia to explore investment opportunities, underscoring growing European interest in the country’s economic potential following a business forum in the capital.
The interest was highlighted at the Cambodia-Austria Business Forum held on Monday, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sun Chanthol, who also serves as First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).
The forum brought together a high-level Austrian business delegation comprising 19 firms, led by Ms. Andreas Sumper, Deputy Head of Mission at the Austrian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
Representatives from key Cambodian ministries and private sector bodies, including the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, also attended.
The CDC said the event formed part of the largest-ever Austrian corporate trade mission to Cambodia, aimed at providing investors with in-depth insights into the country’s investment climate and market conditions.
It also facilitated discussions with Royal Government institutions, laying the groundwork for potential business partnerships.
Speaking at the forum, H.E. Sun Chanthol highlighted Cambodia’s appeal as an investment destination in Southeast Asia, citing favourable investment laws, macroeconomic stability, a young workforce and expanding infrastructure.
He also pointed to the Royal Government’s efforts to crack down on online scams as part of measures to strengthen the business environment.
“These are all essential factors in creating an attractive environment for foreign investors seeking direct investment opportunities,” he said.
The CDC added that close cooperation with the Austrian Embassy is expected to help expand Austrian business presence in Cambodia, contributing to industrial development and sustainable economic growth.
