Cambodian PM Encourages Japanese Investment in Eastern Region

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has encouraged Japanese investors to explore investment opportunities in the eastern part of Cambodia, particularly in Svay Rieng province.

“I hope the Japanese Ambassador will help attract more Japanese investment to Cambodia, especially in Svay Rieng. I encourage and welcome investors to the eastern region,” he said while presiding over the inauguration of a water treatment plant in Svay Rieng and the groundbreaking ceremony for water infrastructure expansion across five provinces.

Over the past three decades, Japan has been a key development partner for Cambodia and remains one of its major foreign investors.

Japanese investment projects in Cambodia are mainly concentrated in Phnom Penh and some areas along the Thai border.

In 2025, Japan ranked as Cambodia’s fifth-largest trading partner, following China, the United States, Vietnam, and Thailand.

Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Japan reached US$2.53 billion last year, marking a 17.1 percent increase. Cambodia exported goods worth US$1.57 billion to Japan, up 11.9 percent, while imports from Japan rose 27 percent to US$956 million.
