Cambodia Launches New Agricultural Transshipment Route to China via Lao PDR

Cambodia has officially launched a new transshipment route for agricultural exports to China via Lao PDR, aiming to reduce transport time and create greater market opportunities for Cambodian farmers and agricultural businesses.

The launching ceremony was held on June 22 in Vientiane, Lao PDR, and was presided over by H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, together with his Lao counterpart and representatives from the private sector.

Speaking at the event, H.E. Dith Tina said the milestone reflects continued efforts and active negotiations between the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and relevant Lao authorities to establish and facilitate procedures for a new transport corridor serving six Cambodian agricultural products destined for the Chinese market.

“This is a positive development and a new opportunity for Cambodian farmers and agricultural businesses to access broader prospects and expand the international market potential of Cambodian agricultural products,” the Minister said.

During the ceremony, four containers of fresh durian were officially dispatched as the first shipment exported from Cambodia to China through Lao PDR.

Cambodia currently exports a range of agricultural products to China, including bananas, mangoes, rice, Pailin longan, cassava starch, and durian.
