Cambodia and Swiss Kantha Bopha Foundations Sign Cooperation MoU

Cambodia Katha Bopha Foundation and the Swiss Kantha Bopha Foundation have reached an agreement to further strengthen the cooperation between the two entities.

The agreement was signed between H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance and Chairman of the Board of Governor of Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation, and Dr. René Schwarzenbach, President of Swiss Kantha Bopha Foundation here in Phnom Penh early this week.

Addressing the function, H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth underlined that the agreement will help not only further expand the cooperation, but also preserve the legacy left by the founder Dr. Beat Richner who endeavoured to rescue children’s lives without discrimination.

The deputy prime minister thanked the Swiss Kantha Bopha Foundation, the people and Government of Swiss for their charitable donations to Cambodia’s Kantha Bopha hospital since 1992.

Since 2018, the Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation has transferred a total of US$32.3 million to Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospitals, he added.

Dr. René Schwarzenbach spoke highly of the on-going good cooperation and pledged to keep it up to secure the sustainability of Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospitals.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in 2021 the Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation received about US$18.5 million from the government, the Cambodian Red Cross, sale of Angkor tickets and other donations.
