Donor Countries Laud Achievement of Khmer Rouge Tribunal


Donor countries have appreciated the achievement of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) or the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.

The appreciation was expressed by representatives of donor countries Ms. Alexandra Hutchison, First Secretary and Legal Adviser, Permanent Mission of Australia to the United Nations and Ms. Hanna Dreifeldt Laine, United Nations Senior Legal Officer, in a meeting with Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers H.E. Bin Chhin here in Phnom Penh on Wednesday.

The donor countries’ delegation from Australia, European Union, France, Japan, Sweden, the United Kingdom, as well as representatives of foreign embassies in Cambodia also joined the meeting.

The ECCC’s achievement was made possible by co-financing and good cooperation in all stages of the trial process.

Donor countries will continue supporting the ECCC’s remaining tasks including the management of archives, promotion and preservation of the court’s legacy, its work conclusion by the end of 2022.

H.E. Bin Chhin spoke highly of the support and good cooperation between Cambodia, donor countries, the United Nations and the international community in Khmer Rouge Tribunal process.

He thanked the donor countries for its on-going support for the ECCC remaining tasks.

The achievement will feature ECCC as a model court for serious crimes and massacre at the international arena and the region in the future, he added.
