The Ottawa Convention’s Implementation Support Unit (ISU) has voiced support for Cambodia’s hosting of the 5th Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty, the Siem Reap Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World, from Nov. 20 to Dec. 3, 2024.
The support was expressed by Mr. Juan Carlos Ruan, Director of the Ottawa Convention’s ISU, during his meeting with Senior Minister H.E. Ly Thuch, First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), in Phnom Penh on Jan. 16.
H.E. Ly Thuch affirmed Cambodia’s readiness to host the 5th Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty and welcomed the participation of delegates from 164 countries and international institutions.
The senior minister continued that Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia and President of CMAA, has been paying close attention and highly values the event.
He also underlined Cambodia’s progress in the preparation and implementation of obligations as the chair and host, particularly the promotion of globalisation and mine action for non-partisan states.
