Economic Independence of Communities in Protected Areas Valued

The Minister of Environment has highlighted the significance of bestowing economic independence upon communities in protected areas promoted through the project of the Archaeological and Development Foundation (ADF).

The minister, H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, made the point during a discussion meeting early this week at the ministry in the presence of Dr. Jean-Baptiste, ADF Programme Director.

The minister appreciated its partnership with the foundation and encouraged it to keep promoting economic independence in the community.

He added that entrusting local authorities with the power to intervene in instances of natural resource crimes will make the project more efficient.

The endeavour is a top priority, as outlined in the Environmental Strategy 2023-2028, with the aim of ensuring sustainable development and building resilience to climate change, he added.
