China has reaffirmed her commitment to continue to support Cambodia in choosing a development path in line with her national conditions, as well as in achieving her goal of becoming an upper middle-income economy by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.
H.E. Wang Wenbin, newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, emphasised the commitment in a courtesy meeting with H.E. Prak Sokhonn, First Vice President of the Senate, at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh on Aug. 12.
The new diplomat also pledged to do his best to further strengthen and expand the relations and cooperation between Cambodia and China, which have now reached the highest level in history.
For his part, H.E. Prak Sokhonn thanked H.E. Ambassador for disseminating good and true information about Cambodia through his short video clips, which will help spread more positive messages to the Chinese people and thus attract them to visit Cambodia.
The senate first vice president thanked China for her good cooperation and support for Cambodia in key areas such as security and defence, as well as socio-cultural sector. He reiterated Cambodia’s irreversible adherence to the “One China” principle and the Kingdom’s continued support to China’s initiatives, including the Global Security Initiative (GSI), the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Civilisation Initiative (GCI), and so on.
China is a leading investment and trade partner and development aid provider of Cambodia, he said, underlining that China’s support has contributed to strengthening Cambodia’s independence both economically and politically.
The two-way trade between Cambodia and China reached more than US$14 billion in 2023. In addition to the diamond cooperation framework, both countries have agreed to establish two corridors, the Industrial and Technological Corridor and the Fish and Rice Corridor, to boost the bilateral trade volume to US$15 billion by 2025.
