The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and the Japanese Embassy in Cambodia co-chaired a joint meeting to discuss investment opportunities and challenges in the country.
Cambodia Deputy Prime Minister and CDC First Vice President H.E. Sun Chanthol and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Cambodia H.E. Ueno Atsushi led the 29th Cambodia-Japan Joint Committee Meeting on Mar. 6 here in Phnom Penh.
H.E. Ueno Atsushi expressed his optimism about the discussion that will contribute to fostering smooth coordination between pertinent Cambodian authorities and Japanese investors in Cambodia.
The discussion centred around investment and environmental regulations, administration and human resources issues, taxation, trade, logistics, and energy supply.
Senior representatives from key Japanese development and business partners such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and the Japan Business Association of Cambodia (JBAC) also joined the discussion.
Acknowledging Japanese investment in Cambodia and their contribution to Cambodia’s development, H.E. Sun Chanthol shared Cambodia’s latest investment and trade updates and paid deep attention to concerns raised for appropriate solutions.
Grounded on mutual support and trust, transparency, and accountability, the Cambodia-Japan Joint Committee Meeting is a mechanism to retain and expand Japanese investments in Cambodia.
The Government of Cambodia approved a total of 414 investment projects in 2024 (the highest figure in the past 30 years) and over 110 investment projects were approved in the first two months of 2025.
