Agricultural Production Contract Signed between Kampong Thom Farming Community and Private Companies


A significant step towards bolstering Cambodia’s agricultural sector took place on April 29 afternoon with the official signing of an agricultural production contract under the presidency of H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, at the Kampong Thom provincial hall.

The contract formalises a partnership between the Baray Tang Kork Modern Rice Farming Community and two private sector entities, Khmer Food Group and BRM AGRO Co., Ltd. The collaboration focuses on the production and supply of two high-quality local rice varieties: Sen Kra’op 01 and Sra Nge Sral.

The event drew the participation of prominent figures including H.E. Yang Saing Koma, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture; H.E. Nuon Pharath, Governor of Kampong Thom; and Okhna Kim Savuth, alongside other provincial department heads, company representatives, and members of agricultural associations.

Okhna Kim Savuth lauded the Royal Government and the Ministry of Agriculture for their initiative in fostering modern agricultural communities. He underscored the importance of such partnerships for all stakeholders and pledged his ongoing commitment to the collaboration, with the goal of generating greater benefits for both the communities and farmers. Furthermore, he assured efforts to secure market access and promote the advancement of premium local rice varieties.

H.E. Minister Dith Tina emphasised the critical need for farmers to have dependable market access. He explained that this initiative is the result of a comprehensive evaluation of the communities’ production capabilities, aligning them with market demands to ensure mutual success and profitability. He stressed the importance of adhering to technical guidelines to meet both quality and quantity standards, crucial for sustaining markets in the long run.

H.E. Minister also highlighted the necessity of mutual trust and transparency among all participating parties, advocating for collaborative efforts towards sustainable growth.

The ceremony concluded with the official signing of a memorandum of understanding by the companies and the farming community, acknowledging the value of locally produced rice and committing to consistent quality in both production and supply.
