Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries H.E. Dith Tina has reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to advancing Cambodia’s agricultural sector through the nationwide deployment of commune-level agricultural officers and the establishment of modern agricultural communities.
The Minister made the remarks while presiding over a get-together with commune-level agricultural officers in Serey Sophorn city, Banteay Meanchey province, on June 29 afternoon.
The event was attended by Secretary of State Kong Chan Veasna and Provincial Governor Oum Reatrey, highlighting the Royal Government’s dedication to strengthening agriculture and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
On the occasion, Minister Dith Tina emphasised the Fifth and Sixth Priority Programmes under the Royal Government’s seventh legislature, which focus on stabilising agricultural product prices, deploying agricultural officers at the grassroots level across the country, and organising modern agricultural communities.
The core objective of these policies is to enhance technical support, production, market access, and economic resilience for farmers under the guiding vision of “Enough to Eat, Enough to Use, Enough to Share, and Enough Forever.” This vision aligns with the Royal Government’s long-term goal of ensuring food security, improving agricultural productivity, and creating sustainable economic opportunities for farmers.
The Minister also provided key recommendations to the officers, encouraging them to seek support from experts when needed via the ministry’s hotline (1289), which is available for agricultural consultations. He stressed the importance of accurately assessing on-the-ground situations, addressing problems directly, reducing production costs, and encouraging farmers to integrate with modern agricultural communities. Such integration, he noted, would allow the Ministry to better support farmers in increasing their economic returns and improving their living standards, thereby building resilience and sustainability in Cambodia’s agriculture sector.
Provincial Governor H.E. Oum Reatrey expressed gratitude for Minister Dith Tina’s direct engagement with local officers and highlighted the potential and challenges within Banteay Meanchey’s agricultural sector. He reaffirmed the provincial administration’s commitment to supporting all programmes and policies of the Ministry to ensure effective implementation and contribute to the shared goal of agricultural development.
Commune-level officers participating in the meeting expressed strong support and appreciation for the Minister’s clear guidance. One officer shared, “We are truly encouraged and proud to be part of this important mechanism. The Minister’s guidance has clarified our roles and responsibilities, and having expert support through the 1289 hotline is a significant asset in our local work.”
Another officer noted, “Deploying commune-level agricultural officers and establishing modern agricultural communities are excellent initiatives that will help farmers gain better knowledge, techniques, and market opportunities. We are committed to implementing these guidelines and contributing to the development of agriculture in our localities.”
The meeting underscored the Royal Government’s unwavering commitment, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, to continue strengthening and expanding the agricultural sector, ensuring its competitiveness and sustainability for the benefit of farmers’ livelihoods and the national economy.
