This Year’s National Fisheries Day Celebrated in Takeo Province

The 20th National Fisheries Day 2025 was celebrated at Boeung Tonle Bati located in Kraing Thnong commune, Bati district, Takeo province under the presidency of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

In his remarks, the Premier emphasised the Royal Government’s continued commitment to give high priority to ensuring food security, improving people’s livelihoods, and sustaining economic growth by maintaining a balance between conservation and development.

In fact, he added, through the implementation of policies set out in a proactive and effective spirit, the Cambodian agricultural sector continues to remain strong, resilient, and contributes significantly to mitigating the negative impacts on the Cambodian economy, especially avoiding food crises and malnutrition, and contributing to reducing food price inflation in the country, despite natural disasters and a series of global crises.

At the end of the celebration, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister will release some 1,5 million fishes and other aquatic animals to natural habitat.

In 2024, Cambodia achieved a freshwater fishery yield of nearly 470,000 tonnes, an increase of 9.5 percent compared to 2023, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the Fisheries Administration’s management and fisheries work.

Cambodia annually marks the National Fisheries Day on July 1 since 2003 to inspire the people across the country to take part in the sustainable preservation and development of fisheries resources in order to increase the fisheries stocks to meet the daily need, ensure food security, and support the people’s livelihoods. Every year, about 5 million domestic fish, fry, and aquatic animals are released into natural waters.
