Cambodia and Japan have expressed their satisfaction and high appreciation for the continued progress of bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of national defence and security.

This shared sentiment was underscored during a meeting held this afternoon at the Peace Palace between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. NAGASHIMA Akihisa, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister and Member of the House of Representatives of Japan.

H.E. NAGASHIMA Akihisa praised the close cooperation between the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force and the Cambodian Army, particularly Japan’s ongoing support for training and capacity building. He also thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for its warm welcome to the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force during their visit to the Ream Naval Base, noting that such exchanges would further strengthen cooperation between the two navies.

On the economic front, H.E. NAGASHIMA welcomed the Cambodia-Japan Economic Co-Creation Package as a valuable new initiative to attract more Japanese investment to Cambodia. He also reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to trilateral cooperation with Cambodia in the areas of training and humanitarian mine clearance to support Ukraine and other affected countries.

In reply, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked the Japanese side for its steadfast support in enhancing the training and capabilities of the Cambodian military. He expressed strong satisfaction with the establishment of a new Cambodia–Japan cooperation mechanism centered on three key pillars, and affirmed that Cambodian ministries and institutions are prepared to coordinate closely with their Japanese counterparts to ensure its successful implementation.

The Premier also extended his appreciation for Japan’s continued support in mine clearance activities in Cambodia. He reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to supporting Japan’s initiative on humanitarian mine clearance and to continuing its active participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations, particularly in missions involving demining and peacekeeping.
