Cambodia Calls on Media and Social Media Users to Avoid Spreading Fake News on Border Tensions

The Ministry of National Defence has called on all members of the media, social media users, and the general public to refrain from sharing unverified information, including photos and videos, related to the current situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

The appeal was made by H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, during a press briefing today, at 11:00 a.m.

She also urged Thai media outlets and social media users to immediately cease the dissemination of misinformation, which could increase tensions and distort the actual situation on the ground.

“Such actions do not reflect the will of both countries, which are currently working towards a peaceful resolution in order to restore peace for the people of both nations,” she underlined.

Regarding the border situation as of 11:00 a.m. on Aug. 1, 2025, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata confirmed that the situation remains calm and peaceful. She stressed that Cambodia has been strictly and fully implementing all terms and conditions of the ceasefire agreement reached with Thailand on July 28, 2025, in Malaysia.

She further reaffirmed that the Royal Government, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), and the Cambodian people continue to stand united in defending the nation’s territorial integrity, dignity, and sovereignty.

“We remain committed to resolving disputes through legal and diplomatic means, and to carrying out the ceasefire with transparency, honesty, and integrity to swiftly stabilise the situation,” she emphasised.
