Agriculture Minister Urges Rice Farmers to Prioritise Climate-Resilient Seed Selection

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries has called on rice farmers and producers to pay more attention to selecting rice seed varieties that are well-suited to Cambodia’s changing climate and evolving market demands.

H.E. Dith Tina highlighted the importance of the selection of appropriate rice seed when leading a technical delegation to meet with farmers in Banteay Meanchey province on Aug. 5 to better understand the challenges faced by them.

The Minister underscored the critical role of rice seeds in improving productivity and resilience.

Meanwhile, H.E. Dith Tina encouraged the adoption of modern agricultural practices to boost yields, enhance crop quality, and reduce production costs, reaffirming his ministry’s commitment to providing ongoing technical support, including guidance on the effective use of fertilisers and pesticides.

To further strengthen the agricultural sector, the Minister also urged farmers to organise into cooperatives, which not only attract more support from government institutions and development partners but also enhance farmers’ bargaining power in the marketplace.

Addressing concerns over limited access to irrigation, the Minister pledged to collaborate with relevant authorities to improve water infrastructure and ensure more accessible irrigation systems for farming communities.
