National Standards Council Approves 21 New Standards to Boost Growth

The National Standards Council has adopted 21 international standards as Cambodian standards.

The approval was made in a meeting held on Sept. 3 chaired by H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation and Chairman of the Council.

The newly adopted standards, drawn from ISO, IEC, and ISO/IEC, span a wide range of sectors, including chemicals, energy management, electrical and electronic products, automotive components, cosmetics, bamboo furniture, and textiles.

“These standards are vital foundations for Cambodia’s progress and the sovereignty of our manufacturing sector, particularly at a time of strong national unity and support movement for local products,” said H.E. Hem Vanndy.

“By applying these standards, Cambodian businesses can better integrate into domestic and international supply chains while safeguarding public health, promoting consumer safety, and enhancing overall competitiveness of our industry,” he added.

In addition to adopting the standards, the Council endorsed the establishment of three new national committees to strengthen Cambodia’s participation in international standardisation bodies such as ISO, IEC, and Codex.

This step aligns with Cambodia’s preparations to become a full ISO member and an associate member of the IEC by 2026.
