Cambodia, the Next Host of Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie


H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, attended the Handover Ceremony for the Presidency of the Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie (CMF) in Kigali, Rwanda, on the afternoon of Nov. 20.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, during the Ceremony, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister extended sincere appreciation to the Republic of Rwanda, as a host, the Republic of France as the President of the 46th CMF, and H.E. Ms. Louise MUSHIKIWABO, Secretary General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), for their tireless efforts in effective fulfillment of the duties.

On the occasion, H.E. PRAK Sokhonn also announced Cambodia’s priorities, being a President of the 47th CMF and a host of 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026 and expressed commitment to successfully organising the two events in Cambodia.

The Francophonie Summit is a prestigious event to demonstrate Cambodia’s cultural heritage and its commitment to the values of Francophonie.

The Francophonie Summit is the highest authority in the Francophonie. It is held every two years and gathers the heads of State/Governments of all member states.

Francophonie was officially established on Mar. 20, 1970. Cambodia became the observer member, at the 4th Francophonie Summit in Chaillot, Paris, France in November 1991, and becomes a full member, at the 5th Francophonie Summit in Grand-Baie in Mauritius in October 1993.

The International Organisation of La Francophonie now has 93 member states including 56 full members, 5 associate members and 32 observers.
