Number of Displaced Cambodian Civilians Jumps to Over 100,000

The number of civilians displaced by the Thai military’s aggressive attacks in Military Regions 4 and 5 has risen to 29,105 families, or approximately 101,229 people, as of 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 9, 2025.

According to figures released by the Ministry of National Defence, the displaced civilians are from Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.

In Banteay Meanchey province, safe centres are currently accommodating around 33,774 people, while those in Oddar Meanchey and Siem Reap provinces are sheltering approximately 26,811 and 19,841 people, respectively.

Additionally, safe centres in Preah Vihear province are hosting about 17,582 displaced civilians, with a further 3,221 people sheltering in Pursat province.

The Ministry also confirmed that seven civilians have been killed: three each in Oddar Meanchey and Banteay Meanchey provinces, and one in Preah Vihear province.

Since Dec. 7, the Thai military has renewed its attacks on Cambodian territory and expanded operations across multiple locations in Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Battambang, and Pursat provinces. These operations have involved the use of heavy weapons, F-16 fighter jets, and toxic gas, resulting in civilian casualties, damage to homes, temples and health centres, the closure of hundreds of schools, and the displacement of thousands of civilians along the border. Cambodia has no choice but to counterattack in self-defence against military operations that violate its territorial integrity, after exercising more than 24 hours of utmost restraint.
