Thai military forces have launched attacks on civilian residences in Military Region 5, specifically in Phnom Preuk and Sampov Loun districts of Battambang province.
According to the Ministry of National Defence, at 11:15 a.m. today, Thai troops fired two shells into Chakrey commune, Phnom Preuk district.
At 11:30 a.m., they reinforced their infantry units and deployed tanks in Ta Sda commune, Sampov Loun district, the ministry added.
The report highlights that Cambodian forces have been fighting fiercely against the advancing Thai troops and continue to stand firm in defending Cambodia’s territorial integrity.
Since Dec. 7, the Thai military has renewed its attacks on Cambodian territory and expanded operations across multiple locations in Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Battambang, and Pursat provinces. These operations have involved the use of heavy weapons, F-16 fighter jets, and toxic gas, resulting in civilian casualties, damage to homes, temples and health centres, the closure of hundreds of schools, and the displacement of thousands of civilians along the border. Cambodia has no choice but to counterattack in self-defence against military operations that violate its territorial integrity, after exercising more than 24 hours of utmost restraint.
