Cambodia Clarifies Border Explosion Incident, Reaffirms Full Commitment to Ceasefire


The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued a press release clarifying an explosion incident that occurred in the Mom Bei area within Cambodia’s territory, injuring two Cambodian soldiers.

According to the press release, at 7:27 a.m. on Jan. 6, 2026, in Mom Bei area, Preah Vihear province, Cambodian forces were carrying out organisation and orderliness arrangements at their stationed area within Cambodia’s sovereign territory when an explosion occurred from a pile of garbage. The incident resulted in injuries to two Cambodian personnel – one sustaining minor injuries and the other seriously injured – while performing their duties at the site.

The Ministry confirmed that the injured personnel have been transported to hospital and are receiving medical treatment.

Regarding the incident, the Cambodia-Thailand Border Coordination Working Team is currently addressing the matter. Working teams from both countries have consulted, exchanged information, and are jointly handling the issue in accordance with existing mechanisms.

The Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed that, guided by the spirit of resolving issues peacefully within the framework of international law, and as a country with a strong sense of responsibility and a genuine commitment to peace, the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces remain firm, honest, and sincere in fully and strictly respecting and implementing the terms of the Ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand signed on July 28, 2025; the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on Oct. 26, 2025; the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) signed on Dec. 27, 2025; and other relevant documents, the press release stated.

These measures aim to rapidly restore normalcy, peace, stability, and security for residents living along the border areas of both countries, it underlined.
