H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has received a farewell courtesy call from H.E. Jo Scheuer, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, on the occasion of the conclusion of his mission to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during the meeting held at the Ministry on Jan. 5, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister expressed appreciation for H.E. Jo Scheuer’s valuable contributions in fostering effective coordination among United Nations agencies in Cambodia and in supporting Cambodia’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister also emphasised the indispensable value of peace in driving national development, expressing hope that the international community will continue to support Cambodia – a small, peace-loving nation committed to fostering peaceful relations with its neighbours so that the peoples of both sides may live together in harmony.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister further conveyed his appreciation to the United Nations for its active engagement in mine action within peacekeeping operations. Cambodia deeply values its partnership with the United Nations in this area, recognising the United Nations’ vital contribution to advancing humanitarian objectives, protecting civilians, and supporting international peacekeeping efforts.
H.E. Jo Scheuer expressed his profound gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for the strong support, trust and close cooperation extended throughout his mission. He emphasised that this partnership had enabled the United Nations system to deliver more effective support across multiple sectors. He further highlighted Cambodia’s progress in aligning national priorities with the global development agenda, reflecting the country’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development. He also expressed his optimism about Cambodia’s continued progress and development.
At the same time, H.E. Jo Scheuer acknowledged the meaningful legacy of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), recognising it as a foundation for Cambodia in advancing justice, accountability, and national reconciliation. The ECCC’s legacy is a cornerstone for Cambodia’s reputation to strengthening the rule of law, preserving historical memory, and laying a permanent foundation for peace and institutional development in the country.
Taking that opportunity, H.E. Jo Scheuer conveyed his deep sympathy for Cambodian displaced persons and victims affected by the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict. He reaffirmed the United Nations’ solidarity with the affected communities and its continued commitment to supporting humanitarian needs, protection, and efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and human security.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to working closely with the United Nations Country Team, especially the incoming Resident Coordinator, Madam Vladanka Andreeva.
In conclusion, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitments to further strengthening the long-standing partnership between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the United Nations.
