Cambodian Ambassador to Japan H.E. Chum Sounry and Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs SHIMADA Tomoaki have reiterated their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and partnership between Cambodia and Japan.
According to a press release issued by the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Japan, the meeting took place on May 27 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in Tokyo.
During the meeting, both sides highly valued the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries, which has continued to deepen across multiple sectors since the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.
Ambassador Chum Sounry highlighted the steady progress in bilateral relations, including high-level exchanges, infrastructure and connectivity, trade and investment, security and defence cooperation, mine action and humanitarian assistance, people-to-people exchanges, as well as regional and international cooperation.
The Cambodian Ambassador also expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support for Cambodia’s socio-economic development and welcomed the launch of the Japan-Cambodia Economic Co-Creation Package in May 2025 as an important framework for enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.
He reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to translating both the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Economic Co-Creation Package into concrete outcomes benefiting the peoples of both nations.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in combating online scams and transnational organised crime. Ambassador Chum Sounry reiterated Cambodia’s strong commitment to addressing online scams and all forms of transnational organised crime through enhanced law enforcement cooperation and regional collaboration.
They further exchanged views on regional developments, during which Ambassador Chum Sounry expressed Cambodia’s appreciation for Japan’s support for the peaceful settlement of the Cambodia-Thailand border issue, implementation of the ceasefire, and humanitarian assistance to displaced persons.
He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to ensuring the full, effective, and good-faith implementation of all existing agreements to achieve lasting peace and stability along the border.
Both sides re-emphasised their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation for peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
