Cambodian Embassy, Soonchunhyang Hospital Sign MOU on Affordable Healthcare for Cambodian Nationals

The Royal Cambodian Embassy in South Korea has partnered with a major South Korean medical institution to provide affordable, high-quality healthcare services to Cambodian citizens residing in the country.

Cambodian Ambassador to South Korea H.E. Khuon Phon Ratanak and Dr. Suh You-sung, director of Soonchunhyang University Hospital (SUH), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the hospital’s headquarters in Seoul on Tuesday.

The agreement aims to guarantee accessible and subsidised medical care for the Cambodian community in South Korea. It also establishes a collaborative framework for joint humanitarian missions benefiting Cambodian citizens both locally and back home.

During the signing ceremony, Dr. Suh highlighted the hospital’s long-standing ties with Cambodia, which began in 2002. Over the past 24 years, Soonchunhyang has actively contributed to developing Cambodia’s healthcare infrastructure by constructing medical facilities, dispatching volunteer medical teams, training Cambodian doctors, and providing academic scholarships.

Dr. Suh pledged to further expand medical assistance to Cambodia, with a particular focus on human resources training to strengthen the Southeast Asian nation’s healthcare foundation.

In response, Ambassador Khuon Phon Ratanak expressed deep gratitude to the hospital for its continuous humanitarian support, noting its history of donating medicine and medical supplies to war refugees, orphanages, and hospitals in Cambodia, as well as providing free medical checkups for Cambodians in both countries.

The ambassador expressed confidence that the MOU will pave the way for closer bilateral cooperation on future humanitarian projects to benefit the peoples of both nations.
