Officials Trained to Fight Crimes Against Children

The U.S. Embassy in Cambodia in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice has organised a training for competent officials from government agencies, relevant counterparts, and civil society organisations to fight the crimes against children.

Taking place from Oct. 20 to 22 in Siem Reap province, the training is attended by 60 representatives from the Ministry of Justice, National Police, General Department of Immigration, Homeland Security Investigation Bureau (HSI), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Regional Security Bureau and NGOs.

Addressing the opening of the training, Justice Secretary of State H.E. Keng Somarith underlined existing mechanisms against the crimes against children and reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to continue addressing the issues.

He also encouraged the participants to grasp new knowledge, skills and experience from the training to further enhance the service, especially in cooperation with the U.S. counterparts.

In his remarks, H.E. W. Patrick Murphy, the U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia, highlighted that the training focuses on information investigation and internet tracking of the crimes.

Following the training, Cambodia and the U.S. will foster information exchange related to crimes against children which usually append to those from deprived and vulnerable backgrounds.

The training also covers areas to promote child protection services, social work, advocacy, psychotherapy and health support for affected children.
