Cambodia and Viet Nam Celebrate Handover of Administrative Building of the National Assembly

The Secretariat-General of the National Assembly of Cambodia hosted a formal handover ceremony for the new Administrative Building of the National Assembly, a gift from the Party, State, and people of Viet Nam, on Thursday afternoon at the National Assembly Palace.

The event was presided over by H.E. Leng Peng Long, Secretary-General of the National Assembly, and H.E. Nguyen Minh Vu, Ambassador of Viet Nam to Cambodia. It was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Secretariat-General of the National Assembly, and representatives of the construction firms TCV Engineering Co., Ltd. and Archetype Cambodia Ltd.

In his remarks, H.E. Leng Peng Long highlighted that the project originated from a Memorandum of Understanding signed on July 20, 2017 during the visit of the late H.E. Nguyen Phu Trong, former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, to Cambodia.

The 12-storey building, whose construction began in 2021, was officially inaugurated in November last year under the high presidency of Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, and H.E. Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam.

According to the National Assembly, designed in traditional Khmer architectural style, the new building aims to enhance the working efficiency of Members of Parliament in their commitment to serving the people and nation of Cambodia. The facility now provides office space for the National Assembly’s leadership, meeting halls of various sizes, and work areas for the Secretariat-General.

“The completion and handover of the building mark a significant milestone in Cambodia–Viet Nam parliamentary cooperation and stand as a symbol of traditional friendship, good neighbourliness, long-lasting relationship and comprehensive strategic partnership,” underlined the National Assembly.
