Agreement Signed to Send More Workers to South Korea

Cambodia and the Republic of Korea, guided by the 6th Employment Permit System (EPS), have entered a memorandum of understanding for sending more Cambodian workers to work in South Korea.

The agreement was signed yesterday by Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and the Ministry of Employment and Labour of the Republic of Korea.

Cambodia’s committee in charge of training and sending workers abroad and the Human Resource Development Unit of the Republic of Korea are the executing agencies of the agreement.

Thanks to their good performance, Cambodian migrant workers have been well recognised, making Cambodia a priority country for South Korea to fill in its lack of labour force.

The Employment Permit System between Cambodia and South Korea was initially signed on Nov. 20, 2006 under the presidency of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Roh Moo-Hyun, former President of the Republic of Korea.

Since 2007, Cambodia has sent a total of 68,294 workers (14,255 women) to work in industrial, agricultural and construction sectors in South Korea.

Currently, there are approximately 45,462 Cambodian workers (10,183 females) working in the Republic of Korea.
