US$35 Million-worth Bridges in Kratie and Prey Veng Provinces Inaugurated

Seven bridges in two eastern provinces – Kratie and Prey Veng – were put into official use this morning.

The inauguration ceremony took place in Sangkat Roka Kandal, Kratie provincial city under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Mikami Masahiro.

The seven bridges are part of the project for urgent replacements of bridges in flood-prone areas, under Japan’s grant aid of US$35 million.

Speaking on the occasion, the Cambodian Premier expressed his gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their financial support for the construction of infrastructure, both soft and hard, in Cambodia.

According to H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport, the construction of the seven bridges of 670 metres long in total, of which five in Kratie and two in Prey Veng, along with connecting roads of 3,424 metres long kicked off in June 2018 and completed in December 2020 by Hazama Ando Corporation under the technical supervision of CTI Engineering International Co., Ltd.

“The new achievement is a precious gift resulted from the friendship and cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of Japan to the people of Kratie, Prey Veng and the people throughout the country for general and long-term use,” H.E. Sun Chanthol said.

The seven bridges have become part of the connection and support of two national roads – National Road 73 in Kratie province and National Road 11 in Prey Veng province – which are very busy for all kinds of transportation and connect to the central and south economic corridors.
