Cambodian PM Heads for ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit in Washington D.C.


Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Chair of ASEAN 2022, departed here this morning for the U.S. to attend and co-chair the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit on May 12-13, at the invitation of U.S. President, the Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr.

The Premier was seen off at Phnom Penh International Airport by Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence and many other senior government officials.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit will be held in Washington D.C. to commemorate the 45th Anniversary of ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue Relations.

On the margin of the Summit, Samdech Techo Prime Minister and other ASEAN Leaders will be received and hosted bipartisan lunch by H.E. Ms. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States, at the Capitol Hill and dinner by Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr., President of the United States of America, at the White House.

ASEAN Leaders will also be meeting with American business leaders to discuss economic cooperation. ASEAN Leaders will be meeting with H.E. Vice President Ms. Kamala Harris and U.S. Cabinet Secretaries on issues related to climate action, clean energy and sustainable infrastructure.

Exchange of views on regional and international issues and on how to bring ASEAN-U.S. Partnership to a new height will be the highlight of this Special Summit.

The Cambodian Premier will have a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and other leaders of ASEAN Member States.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister will also meet with Cambodian compatriots who live in the United States of America.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen is accompanied by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport, H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, and other senior government officials.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen will return home on May 15.
