Japan NPO Supports Mine Clearance Action in Cambodia


The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) and the International Mine Clearance and Community Development Supporters (IMCCD) have reached an agreement to clear 304,875 square metres of landmine-contaminated area.

With a fund of US$43,714 supported by the Japan Non-Profit Organisation (NPO), the agreement was inked between CMAC Director General H.E. Heng Ratana, and Mr. Takayama Ryoji, IMCCD’s Resident Representative, at the CMAC headquarters in Phnom Penh capital last week.

The year-long project will run from Aug. 16, 2022 to Aug. 15, 2023, according to CMAC.

IMCCD project focuses on the clearance of anti-personnel mines and all kinds of unexploded ordnance, especially anti-tank mines, said the source, adding that through the IMCCD project, people can safely use agricultural land to build houses, schools and hospitals, especially the development of community infrastructure as well as the whole society.
