China’s BRI Benefits Greatly Cambodia’s Economy


Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has highly valued the China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) benefiting greatly Cambodia’s economy.

The BRI has boosted and attracted more investment to Cambodia, creating jobs for the locals and contributing to the national economic development, the Premier said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of US$1.35 billion-worth Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway on June 7.

“Cambodia has benefited from the BRI initiated by Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping through grants, loans for the construction of infrastructure, and investment in large investment projects,” he stressed.

Under the BRI, there are several mega projects, such as Angkor Siem Reap International Airport, the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, all invested by Chinese investors and many other projects under concessions loans and grants from China, including the Morodok Techo National Stadium, schools, hospitals, and irrigation systems, etc.

The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh celebrated on May 22 the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative and the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
