Royal Government Welcomes All Initiatives in Favour of Cambodia-U.S. Relations


Cambodia is open to and always welcomes all initiatives and cooperation to improve the Cambodia-U.S. relations, underlined Prime Minister H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit Hun Manet while receiving Mr. Alex Carnes, Clerk, Democratic/Staff Director at Senate Appropriations Committee State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Subcommittee, here at the Peace Palace yesterday.

Moreover, H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit Hun Manet emphasised that Cambodia really wants good relations with the U.S. on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit, looking forward to more than just political interests.

The Council of Ministers of the Royal Government of the 7th Legislature of the National Assembly is ready to work with the U.S. to further strengthen and expand the relations and cooperation between the two countries in both the bilateral and multilateral frameworks for their common interest, he affirmed.

H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit Hun Manet also thanked the U.S. government and people for their role in contributing to the reconstruction and development of Cambodia by supporting the process of multi-party democracy, human resource training, mine clearance; providing the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) scheme for Cambodia’s textile and garment products; donating COVID-19 vaccines; and extending financial support for health and economic recovery.

For his part, Mr. Alex Carnes expressed his congratulations to H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit for his appointment as the Prime Minister of Cambodia, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the development of Cambodia-U.S. relations.

He also praised the U.S.-Cambodia cooperation with long-standing diplomatic ties and recalled the U.S. contribution to Cambodia’s development through social development assistance, health promotion and education programmes.

Besides, the two parties discussed a number of issues related to strengthening multi-party liberal democracy, human rights, security, safety and socio-economic development.
