Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, this morning reiterated that development and conservation must go hand in hand.
“There has been a question, which is more important, world heritage or people? I have confirmed that we choose both of them, the conservation and the people. We cannot leave any behind,” the Premier stressed at a get-together with people who have volunteered to move out of Angkor Park to Run Taek Development Area of Banteay Srei district and Peak Sneng Development Area of Angkor Thom district, Siem Reap province.
Run Taek and Peak Sneng development areas are the symbol of development for conservation, Samdech Thipadei said, reaffirming that the Royal Government has been doing its best to develop the nation for the people’s benefit at present and in the future, but it has not ignored the cause of heritage preservation.
Angkor Archeological Park is a symbol of the nation and a World Heritage Site. According to the Premier, the park cannot secure its classification on the World Heritage List if illegal structures remain in the conservation areas of the park.
