DPM Urges More Attention to Road Accidents

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H.E. Aphi Sante Pundit Sar Sokha has called on more attention to road accidents, as the number of cases did not decrease in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

The deputy prime minister made the call when chairing the 15th National Road Safety Week, which was also attended by Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Peng Ponea in Battambang province on May 8.

According to the record, the number of road accidents in the first quarter of 2024 was 781, or about 9 cases at a daily average, which is similar to that in the previous year, and the accidents led to 387 deaths and 1,084 injuries.

H.E. Sar Sokha instructed all road users to be mindful at all times about responsible driving, tolerance, and respect for traffic laws in order to ensure road safety.

During the event, with about 1,200 participants, donors also handed over helmets to the ministry for appropriate distribution.
