Ministry, W Foundation Organise Global Climate Action Forum

The Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the W Foundation, organises a Forum on Global Climate Action 2024 in pursuance of carbon neutrality and carbon credit trade for Cambodia.

Minister of Environment H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, who is also the Chair of the National Council for Sustainable Development, presided over the forum that took place on May 16 here in Phnom Penh.

H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth highlighted the socio-economic impacts of climate change and the strategic commitment of the Royal Government of Cambodia through the Ministry of Environment to tackling the issues.

Cambodia is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 41 percent by 2023 if there is adequate financing and technology, he added.

He also called for a competition on the certification and assessment of carbon credits in the world, underscoring that Cambodia is investing in carbon credits from agriculture, energy, transportation, and solid waste management.

Mr. Kevin W. Lee, President of the W Foundation, said the forum brought about a wealth of innovative ideas, the exchange of research findings, and networking opportunities that will contribute to addressing greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.

About 500 members of the National Council for Sustainable Development and representatives of inter-ministerial working groups, concerned government bodies, embassies, development partners, the private sector, and civil society organisations attended the event.
