The 20th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology, and Innovation (AMMSTI-20) kicked off in Siem Reap this morning under the Chairmanship of Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his warm welcome to all foreign delegates and distinguished guests who have gathered here for the AMMSTI-20.
“Under the visionary theme “ AI Application: Navigating the Future,” this year’s meeting focuses on strategic discussions pertaining to the integration of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in public and private sectors across the region is very important for the human being, Samdech Thipadei said.
“Science and technology are important pillars to support the progress of humanity. It helps to support progress and improve the lives of people [… ] but all should pay attention of the moral, privacy and so on”, Samdech Thipadei underlined.
The Cambodian Prime Minister said this event is expected to be a key moment for ASEAN to showcase the outcomes of the discussions, including joint statements by ASEAN Ministers on STI about the critical need for AI application to drive regional growth, and emphasizing the importance of ethical issues, regulations, skills and education, and public engagement.
For his parts, H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation of Cambodia, said science and technology especially AI have both challenges and opportunities for society.
The minister went on to say that it’s crucial for human to have a comprehensive understanding on how to manage technology in a way that promotes inclusivity and sustainable growth.
AI has been dramatically introduced to human being therefore the integration of AI into socioeconomic development is needing, but we have to adopt it, he added.
This approach involves implementing regulations, providing training, fostering engagement, and learning from both successes and failures to ensure that AI contributes positively for the shared future of human, underlined the minister.
