China-Cambodia Digital Economic Cooperation Forum was held here in Phnom Penh on Nov. 4, giving floor to Cambodian and Chinese relevant officials and private sector to explore ways to boost stronger digital economic cooperation between the two countries.
The event is aimed to contribute to further strengthening and expanding the cooperation between Cambodia and China, especially in the field of technology as well as to promoting the overall digital economic development of the two countries.
The forum focused on the theme of cooperation and development in the era of digital economy and launched a number of wonderful discussions and case sharing.
The forum showed the participation of relevant parties and the private sector in the process of building digital socio-economic community in Cambodia, said H.E. Akka Pundit Sapheachar Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance.
Digital technology has grown rapidly and become an additional platform for support growth and economic resilience. “For Cambodia, the development of the digital economy is considered an important driver in the process of economic development,” he said.
Digital technology has been identified as one of key priorities of the Royal Government’s strategy to achieve the vision of becoming a high-income country by 2050, he added.
Speaking at the forum, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Wang Wenbin said he witnessed remarkable progress in digital infrastructure construction, e-commerce and digital payment between China and Cambodia.
“We firmly believe that with joint efforts, Cambodia and China digital economic cooperation will yield more fruitful results,” he underlined.
Official figures showed that in the first three quarters of this year, the bilateral trade between Cambodia and China rose by 13.2 percent to US$9.8 billion, in which, Cambodia exported US$1.27 billion worth of products to China, a year-on-year increase of 21 percent while importing US$8.52 billion from China, up 12 percent.
