IDC-CDI President Supports Cambodian Statesmen’s Comment “There Is No Standard for Peacebuilding in the World”

The President of the Internationale démocrate centriste-Centrist Democrat International (IDC-CDI) and former President of Colombia H.E. Andres Pastrana Arango strongly supported a statement saying that the world has no standard for peace.

H.E. Andres Pastrana Arango voiced the support when he and his colleagues paid a courtesy call on Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Honorary President of the 12th General Assembly of International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), at the January 7 Palace here on Nov. 23.

The IDC-CDI president said he totally agreed with Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s statement at the opening ceremony of the 12th ICAPP General Assembly saying “there is no standard for peacebuilding in the world. The single standard for the world exists only in the field of sports”.

H.E. Andres Pastrana Arango added that only each individual country can create its own method or standard for peacebuilding.

Besides, he shared some common bitter history between Colombia and Cambodia that have suffered from war and division, especially during the Marxist Guerilla rebellion that lasted more than 50 years ago.

H.E. Andres Pastrana Arango emphasised that Samdech Techo Hun Sen is a model of peace for the world and Cambodia’s experience of building and maintaining peace is truly invaluable for the world to study, understand and learn from.

H.E. Andres Pastrana Arango said that Cambodia is a model country for Colombia and based on this experience, he tried to negotiate with all political parties and all relevant parties, and as a result, Colombia has now become a model country for reconciliation for peace.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated the successful outcome of the recent IDC-CDI Executive Committee Meeting in Siem Reap, and thanked H.E. Andres Pastrana Arango and his delegation for their participation in the 12th ICAPP General Assembly hosted by CPP in Phnom Penh.

The CPP president said that participating in these meetings is very important at a time when the world is evolving rapidly, with dangers, complexities, and uncertainties, requiring political parties from all regions to meet and discuss ways to help bring peace back to our world.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also re-emphasised that there is no such standard for the pursuit of peace. True justice is justice that everyone can accept, and this is an important point that political parties should consider.
