Cambodia Delighted to Share Peace-building Experience to International Community

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodia is happy to further share her experience on peace building to the world as some nations have been suffering from war.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of new achievements of the Boeung Chungruk Techo Win Win Development Area in Malai district, Banteay Meanchey province this morning, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said that from late last week until now, Cambodia has been hosting three important international meetings to promote peace.

“Peace is hard to build, but we can achieve in 1998 under the Win-Win Policy of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, therefore we are happy to share [our experience with the world],” he underlined.

The three key meetings included the 12th General Assembly of International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) from Nov. 21-24, the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP 11) from Nov. 23-26, and the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World from Nov. 25-29.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodia has to ensure peace, because it is the foundation of all, and called on the public not to believe in any extremist politicians to disrupt peace or to commit any action to violate the existing laws.

“This year is the first year that we are going to have a day off on Dec. 29 to celebrate the Peace Day on which the Royal Government issued a sub-decree last year, after we gained complete peace on Dec. 29, 1998,” the Premier added.

At the recent 12th General Assembly ICAPP in Phnom Penh, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, said that there is no standard for peacebuilding in the world. The single standard for the world exists only in the field of sports.

H.E. Andres Pastrana Arango, President of the Internationale démocrate centriste-Centrist Democrat International (IDC-CDI) and former President of Colombia expressed his strong support to this statement, saying that only each individual country can create its own method or standard for peace building.

Co-Chairperson of ICAPP Standing Committee and Chairman of the Senate Defence Committee of Pakistan, H.E. Mushahid Hussain Sayed recently said Cambodia has a unique feature that brings conflicting forces together to the negotiating table to find a common ground.

“Cambodia has a unique character in its history. We see that Cambodia started with two prime ministers, then only one, which is an innovation for Cambodia. This is what I call a great national reconciliation,” he commented at a press conference at the end of the 12th General Assembly of ICAPP.
