Initial Rollout of Phnom Penh Pedestrian Streets Expected in Late January

Phnom Penh is going to launch the first phase of pedestrian streets along the river in late January 2025 to make the area more convenient to travellers and tourists.

Phnom Penh Governor H.E. Khuong Sreng highlighted the direction when leading a technical meeting to review the progress of the capital’s pedestrian street project on Dec. 25.

The initial stage of the project spans from the streets in front of the Cambodia Post building to the park opposite the Royal Palace.

The pedestrian streets will be active in the evenings of Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, so no vehicles will be allowed to pass those areas.

Parking lots, public toilets, other necessary facilities and services, as well as restaurants and shops, will also be introduced and improved to ensure a smooth operation of the pedestrian streets.

Director of Phnom Penh’s Department of Public Works and Transport  Mr. Sam Piseth updated that awareness building and negotiations with residents and business operators in the areas are going on to get their support and engagement.

The whole Phnom Penh pedestrian street project will cover three zones near the riverside, aiming to ease traffic to attract tourists and make tourism businesses and services more vibrant.
