CPP President Calls for Law Against Anyone who Attempts to Overthrow the Legitimate Government

President of the Ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and President of the Senate Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen called for law establishment against anyone who attempts to overthrow the legitimate government.

Addressing the the mass meeting to commemorate the 46th Anniversary of January 7 Victory Day over the Khmer Rouge Genocidal Regime (Jan. 7, 1979-Jan. 7, 2025) in front of Koh Pich Theatre here this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said peace is vital and the core for everything, therefore all have to protect peace.

“In this spirit, I believed that it is time to establish a law that will define any person or group who plans or conspires to create an extremist movement, cause chaos and insecurity in society, provoke conflicts with other states, and attempts to overthrow the legitimate government as terrorists, and that person or group must be brought to justice,” he said.

He stressed that Cambodia must clearly understand that peace cannot last long without national reconciliation, justice, and sustainable and inclusive development. At the same time, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also requested competent institutions to pay attention to strengthening the implementation of the law against the non-recognition of crimes committed during the period of Democratic Kampuchea “in the strictest manner”.

The Senate President highlighted that for Cambodia, even though we have complete peace for 26 years, but peace remains a current issue in the daily lives of our people, as there are still a small number of extremists who are constantly trying to sow extremist sentimental politics in our society aiming to incite, instigate, and inspire the people, the armed forces, and civil servants to work against the legitimate government, which is a real threat to peace. The Kingdom of Cambodia is currently striving to advance on the path of peace, democracy, the rule of law and development to build its future to become a civilised country like other countries in the world, without the recurrence of war and genocide, … he emphasised.
