H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) received here on Mar. 5 a delegation of Japanese businessmen led by Mr. Wakabayashi Kohei, Chief Representative of Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in Cambodia.
The delegation, composed of representatives from 38 Japanese firms, is in Cambodia to explore investment opportunities and gain a deep understanding of the country’s economic landscape.
In the meeting, H.E. Sun Chanthol provided a comprehensive views of the Kingdom’s ongoing economic development, highlighting the Royal Government of Cambodia’s policies focusing on economic diversification, aiming to achieve the Cambodia Vision 2050 as a high-income economy.
He also highlighted Cambodia’s attractiveness as a potential investment destination due to its strategic location, strong political stability, renewable energy sources, young workforce and government’s support for the private sector such as preferential investment law and diverse and interconnected intermodal transport and logistics infrastructure.
He further guided the delegation to priority investment sectors, encouraging them to explore opportunities in manufacturing, physical infrastructure, agriculture and agro-industry, green energy, education and training, special economic zones, small- and medium-sized enterprises, and services.
The delegation expressed their appreciation and high interest in Cambodia’s remarkable progress. They also highly appreciated the efforts of the Royal Government as well as the CDC in coordinating, caring and supporting the investors.
They said insights gained during the visit would significantly enhance the confidence of potential Japanese investors in Cambodia.
Japan has been investing in 149 projects in Cambodia with a total investment capital of approximately US$2.9 billion, a latest report showed.
The most prominent projects invested by Japanese investors in Cambodia thus far include shopping malls, automobile assembly plants, small-scale motor production factories, electrical equipment or tool production factories and hospitals.
