Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly (NA), received a courtesy call from H.E. Tull Traisorat, the newly appointed Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia, at the NA Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.
In the meeting, Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed heartfelt thanks to H.E. Tull Traisorat and his colleagues for successfully coordinating the visit of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to Cambodia last week.
The visit marked a significant milestone, bringing new momentum to the strategic partnership between the two countries as we commemorated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, she said.
The Cambodian NA President also emphasised that political trust is vital for peace, stability, and shared prosperity, ensuring that all collaborative efforts align with the aspirations of both nations and peoples.
For his part, the Thai ambassador stated that the legislatures of both countries have been working closely within the bilateral and multilateral frameworks, including government-to-government and private sector collaborations. Additionally, the business councils of both nations have been fostering strong and practical ties.
Both sides recognised the pivotal role of parliamentary friendship groups in advancing diplomatic and legislative ties.
H.E. Tull Traisorat pledged to further strengthen commercial, investment, and people-to-people ties, emphasising that the people serve as the foundation of the relationship and that fostering deeper connections remains essential.
He noted the remarkable increase in bilateral tourism under the frameworks of ‘Two Kingdoms, One Destination’ and ‘Six Countries, One Destination’. He advocated for greater cross-border trade, investment, and connectivity across road, rail, sea, and air networks to stimulate commerce.
H.E. Ambassador expressed optimism for expanding Thailand’s investment footprint in Cambodia, citing Thai hotel chains and travel agencies as key drivers for tourism growth. He affirmed that new business projects in Cambodia will further strengthen economic ties this year.
He also mentioned that Thailand remains a leading source of foreign direct investment in Cambodia, ranking among the top five investors. He projected that bilateral trade volume would exceed US$10 billion in 2025, underscoring the robust economic interdependence between the two nations.
Samdech Khuon Sudary commended Ambassador Traisorat for his role in deepening bilateral ties amid global economic uncertainties. She highlighted the necessity of regional integration and trade expansion to fortify economic resilience and unlock new opportunities for both countries.
She stated that Cambodia looks forward to welcoming Thailand’s parliamentary friendship delegation, reinforcing mutual interests and shared aspirations. She underlined that Thailand’s success is Cambodia’s success, and vice versa, reflecting the strength of partnership.
The NA President stressed that security cooperation remains a priority, with both nations pledging to combat transnational crimes, including online scams and illegal trafficking, adding that ensuring safety and stability is crucial for maintaining public trust, fostering investor confidence, and contributing to the development of a more prosperous and sustainable ASEAN community.
Samdech Khuon Sudary underscored the significance of cross-border cooperation in labour, education, skill development, and healthcare to improve the quality of life for citizens.
