Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn has laid stress on three crucial sectors to foster the cooperation between Cambodia and Russia.
The Cambodian top diplomat raised the points while co-chairing with H.E. Ms. Oksana Lut, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the 11th Session of the Cambodia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation (IGC) on April 28 via videoconference.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, in order to intensify bilateral cooperation, encouraged the expedited and full implementation of the signed Agreements/MoUs to maximise their potential benefits. He highlighted three key areas for strengthening cooperation:
On trade and investment, the Deputy Prime Minister invited Russian business leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors to explore the Cambodian market—particularly in sectors such as agriculture and food products. To foster greater business-to-business engagement, he suggested both sides to consider organising joint business forums or expos as platforms for networking, matchmaking, and collaborative ventures.
On energy and industrial cooperation, the Cambodian co-chair welcomed Russia’s intention to expand cooperation in these key areas, and underlined that the two countries could leverage existing partnerships to transform these sectors into engines of long-term shared prosperity.
On development cooperation and people-to-people connectivity, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed appreciation for Russia’s support to the development journey in Cambodia and for scholarships offered to Cambodian students.
After the exchange of views and discussions on a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, the Session agreed on a course of actions to advance cooperation in key areas, among them: economy, trade, investment, energy and natural resources, industry, transport, ICT, finance and banking, education, culture and sports, healthcare, and environment.
The meeting concluded with the signing between the co-chairs of the Agreed Minutes of the 11th Session of IGC, establishing a solid guideline for deepening and expanding Cambodia-Russia cooperation across various fields.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a dynamic, forward-looking relationship based on mutual trust, respect, and benefit.
