Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate, held separate meetings with Indonesian legislative leaders in Jakarta during his working visit to Indonesia from May 5 to 7.
According to Senate Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thirith, Samdech Techo Hun Sen met with Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, Speaker of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council, on Tuesday, and with H.E. Ms. Puan Maharani, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia, on Wednesday.
Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin warmly welcomed Samdech Techo Hun Sen, describing him as an outstanding and influential Cambodian leader. He praised Samdech Techo as a statesman who led Cambodia from a time of war to an era of peace and steady progress.
The Indonesian Speaker also expressed strong support for Samdech Techo’s proposal to establish the ASEAN Senate Summit Forum, emphasising that the initiative would strengthen regional ties and further highlight the role of senates in addressing ASEAN’s challenges across various sectors.
H.E. Ms. Puan Maharani remarked that Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s visit would further enhance bilateral relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Indonesia.
In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s key role in Cambodia’s peace-building process and development efforts. He noted the good relations and cooperation between both ASEAN nations and voiced his commitment to boosting trade—currently valued at around US$1 billion—as well as increasing the number of direct flights between the two countries.
The Cambodian Senate President extended invitations to both Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin and H.E. Ms. Puan Maharani to visit Cambodia to further strengthen legislative collaboration. The two Indonesian leaders accepted the invitation and are expected to visit in the near future.
